Housed in the Westin Hotel, this popular Japanese restaurant has been a feature of the Seattle dining scene for some time.
The restaurant is large, yet quite comfortable. It does not have the classic, 'serene' atmosphere of many Japanese restaurants. It is a curious blend of Japanese, bistro and Californian styles. Overhead there are huge Japanese-style light shades. You sit in comfortable and very modern 'bistro' chairs. At the back of the bar there is a large copper lobster.
You can order a la carte or from one of the set menus. If you order in advance you can even specify a price and the chefs will prepare a menu to suit.
One of the best dishes that we have tried here is the Chawan Mushi, that wonderful savoury custard that the Japanese do so well. We also enjoyed the fried bean curd (agedashi tofu) served in a soy broth.
Of the sushi we have tried, the best was the red snapper. This fish is perfect for sushi and sashimi. You can also sample other fish of the day such as Yellowtail, Octopus, Salmon or Tuna.
We thought that the Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc was a good accompaniment to the food served here.
