The Independent Wine Store in Rye is a charming, small wine store and café where you can drop in for a cup of good coffee or sit and drink one of the wines by the glass selected by the owner from the excellent selection of non-mainstream wines available in the store.
You will find some of Australia and Europe's more interesting wines here but, as can be expected, they have a particularly strong selection from the Mornington Peninsular.
There are many others such as those from exciting McLaren Vale producer Brash Higgins. We were also delighted to see three or four grower Champagnes from biodynamic producers such as Laherte and Agrapart and the 'Cousin Oscar' Cinsaut from Languedoc natural winemaker Rimbert whose wines are held in high regard in Paris wine bars.
You can also have a snack here based on some very good local meats and cheeses and for a small additional charge enjoy any bottle from the excellent selection of wines and beers.
