Mocan and Green Grout is a cool little café in the rather pleasant new development in New Acton in Canberra. The café features ethically sourced produce such as fair trade coffee, free range eggs from Temora, fresh water trout from Tumut and sustainable seafood from the NSW south coast. It is a very pleasant environment and the food is cooked with skill and care. The service is also very professional and friendly.
At a recent breakfast we tried the Tripoli Baked Eggs with hummus, spiced radish and yoghurt as well as the Spicy Braised Beans with a very good rendition of Shankleesh, the Middle Eastern spicy cheese.
The food is preapred on a central table where patrons can also sit and watch the calm chefs at work. There is room for about twenty people inside with additional seating outside.
At night, the menu changes to food more suited to dinner. No booking are accepted and there is no wine list, so take your own favourite bottle or two.
