Fix Wine Bar + Restaurant is a pleasant relief from the Sydney hype. You can go here to have an enjoyable experience, beautifully cooked food and interesting wine with savvy service.
The restaurant is in an unremarkable row of street frontages just near the David Jones department store. You might even walk past and not notice. But this would be a mistake because it one of Sydney's smarter restaurants.
The menu is mercifully simple and brief. They don't try to dazzle the diner with exotic ingredients. They do 'poached chook' and 'whole rainbow trout’ and 'Cape Grim Scotch Fillet'. We like this simple and minimalist approach.
The food was why we were there and it was beautiful. Four of us shared so many dishes that we can't report on them all, but stand-outs were a simple Kingfish crudo that was perfectly cut and perfectly fresh. We also enjoyed a shredded pork dish (it would have been called pulled pork in the United States) served with a bean salad.
Possibly the highlight of the night was the aforementioned 'poached chook'. Why don't more restaurants use this classic cooking method!!! The chicken was tender, flavoursome and unctuous. A pork T Bone was served with a fennel salad and was also delicious.
The pick of the desserts was a Honey and Clove Pannacotta that revealed a deft touch in the kitchen.
This is a great venue where you can go to enjoy food and wine in un-fussy surroundings.
We love it!
