Vin de Pays de Retz wine appellation
Wine appellation
Country: France

The Vin de Pays de Retz is a wine appellation in the Loire Valley of France in the region of Pays de Retz which lies to the south-west of the city of Nantes. This appellation essentially joins the Loire appellations which finish in the area surrounding Nantes to the Atlantic.
Wines here are usually made from Grolleau Gris - a grape that hardly gets rave reviews in the wine press.
A domaine to watch from this area is Domaine de l'Aujardiere where Eric Chevalier crafts some very fine wines that are not necessarily sold as Vin de Pays de Retz but are usually labelled under the broader appellation of Vin de Pays du Jardin de France (which is now renamed as Vin de Pays du Val de Loire).
