If you want perfectly cooked meat and lots of it, then El Gaucho in Seattle's trendy Belltown is THE place to go. In fact, it might be able to claim that it is one of the best steak places in the country!
Walking through the doors of the unremarkable building into the cavernous, dimly-lit interior is like entering a time-warp back to the 1950s.
Dinner-suited waiters sweep through the room carrying their treasures aloft, preparing salads to order at the table-side, choosing cigars for addicts in the adjoining cigar room and carrying requests for tunes to the piano player near the extensive bar. It's a moment taken directly from an American movie.
But all this wouldn't be worth reporting if the food wasn't good. A slab of Angus beef that had been aged beautifully and cooked with skill was enough to convince us that this was a place worth taking note of. It seemed the perfect partner to a Brunel Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
This is definitely a 'big night out' restaurant.
