The flavours at David's are spicy, lively and extraordinarily fresh. It is an ideal place for a Sunday yum cha or a long, leisurely dinner.
We have eaten here many times and always enjoyed it. At our most recent meal we started with salted soy beans (the ones called edamame in Japan) and large batons of pickled cucumber which were served with chilli and ginger. We also tried the spring onion cakes again as this northern delicacy is a great favourite of ours.
The dumplings (we sampled six different varieties) were all very good with the exception of the xiao long bao where we thought the wrapper was slightly too thick although the filling and the soup were good.
This was more than compensated for by a stunning drunken chicken dish that was succulent, moist and flavourful.
Overall, David's is a class act that is worth considering on one of your trips to Melbourne.
They are very serious about tea here and equally serious about wine.
