Buon Ricordo is one of those clubby, comfortable restaurants full of clubby, comfortable regulars who are drawn to this restaurant like flies round a honey pot. Regulars know they will be recognised and treated like long lost friends and they know the service will be impeccable and that the tables will be dotted with friends and acquaintances.
With all this you might get suspicious that the general atmosphere is such that the restaurant doesn't have to provide good food with all that conversation going on. Nothing could be further from the truth. The food here is very, very good. In fact, we think it is one of the best Italian restaurants in Sydney and only marginally behind the best in Melbourne.
Meals normally start with a complimentary bruschetta and on our most recent visit, ours was prepared perfectly. A fennel and artichoke salad was an absolute masterpiece of textures and flavours. It worked brilliantly.
A dish of scallops on crushed potatoes with a balsamic emulsion and wild rocket salad, confirmed that scallops and potato are one of the great food combinations. They had also treated the balsamic with a deft hand!
A dish of risotto with wild nettles had been cooked from scratch and served just how we like it - creamy, but still with a slight resistance to the bite.
With a wine list that provides an excellent array of both local and Italian wines, this is a great place for a celebration.
Cape Gooseberries with chocolate as a complimentary 'mignardise' was a nice way to finish the meal.
