La Cave du Suisse d'Alger is a treasure trove of interesting wines in the pedestrian area in the centre of the lovely village of Uzes.
We love calling in here to peruse the groaning shelves packed with the very best selections from the immediate region and beyond.
First impressions as you walk in might be a little strange as the entire wall of the first section in stocked with one of the best Scotch Whisky selections you are likely to find outside Scotland.
But as you move towards the back you find the pick of the emerging winemakers of the Languedoc ranging from the nearby Costerie de Nimes through to Pic Saint Loup to Saint Chinian and beyond. You will find the very smart wines from The Domaine du Clos Roca Coteaux du Languedoc which is produced by rising stars Jean-Christophe and Stephanie Michaux whose vineyards are near the small village of Nizas, the quirky offerings from Domaine Rimbert from the village of Berlou in Saint Chinian as well as the powerful reds from Chateau Gres such as the Saint Paul Antonin Coteaux du Languedoc. Further afield you will find Vieux Telegraphe from Chateauneuf-du-Pape and the venerable Domaine Tempier from Bandol.
This is a great store that is worth the trip to this pretty village alone!
