Pic St Loup wine appellation
Wine appellation
Country: France

The Pic St Loup wine appellation lies in the hills behind Montpellier where the Mediterranean plains morph into the high plateaux beyond. There are some excellent red and white wines produced.
The height and the lower temperatures mean that the grapes ripen slowly giving the wine an admirable elegance. The climate and the soil particularly favour Syrah with some of the better examples rivalling those of the northern Rhone.
Some of the domaines to look for are Chateau de Cazeneuve, Chateau de Lancyre, Mas de Morties, Domaine de l'Hortus and Chateau La Roque.
