Delicacy has become a key part of the Launceston shopping experience for food lovers. There are now six shops on our weekend circuit where we shop for the products we need for our cooking adventures. The Mill Providore & Gallery, Black Forest Smallgoods, Wursthaus at Olivers, Davies Grand Central Station, Asian Products and, of course, Delicacy.
It is quite a large space just off Charles St. The range of products is broad and there are many that you won't find elsewhere. They do, for example, sell salted cod and the wonderful Fijian mineral water.
You can find smallgoods including free range bacon cut to order, leg ham, salamis, fresh sausages and any more supplied by Black Forest Smallgoods and Coates butchery in Forth. They also make their own rillettes, Jamon de Persille and a good chicken terrine.
They also sell the smoked salmon products from 41 degrees South Aquaculture including their wonderful smoked salmon rillettes. There is also a good range of Tasmanian cheese including Pyengana as well as many imported varieties including one of our favourites from the Central Massif namely the creamy, blue Rochecave. We have even, on one visit, witnessed the impending cutting of a whole grana padano wheel.
In the refrigerator you will find the Elgaar dairy products, Meredith yoghurt and marinated goat's milk cheese as well as Lescure butter.
Just inside the door there are racks full of bread from the Fournil du Yorktown French baker and from the Lilydale Bakery. There are organic pickled walnuts, the fabulous Ashbolt olive oil and elderflower juice, Anvers truffles, Martelli pasta as well as a range of nuts, pulses and grains. For the health conscious, they even sell Goji berries.
And, if all this isn't enough they also sell a small range of Tasmanian and European wines, including a selection of Antinori and Gaja wines and even the fruity Crozes Hermitage from Maxime Graillot called Equinoxe.
Definitely worth a visit!
