Vin de Pays des Cotes Catalanes is a zonal vins de pays in the Languedoc Roussillon region of France. Some very interesting wines are available from this vin de pays.Look for the Matassa Blanc Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes.Another wine we like that is marketed under this label is the Clos du Rouge Gorge Vin de Pays des Côtes Catalanes. The reason for the vin de pays labelling is that the winemaker has an affinity for the Carignan grape wants to produce traditional wines of the area so he turns his back on the Roussillon-Villages appellation available to his village of Latour de France which requires at least 30% of Syrah or Mourvedre to qualify. He also produces a fine Macabeo under the same label. His vines are tended using biodynamic viticulture.
