It is always comforting to revisit Bistro Moncur because we know in advance that we are going to have a good meal! It is consistency, reliability and the high quality of the food and service that keep people going back to this Woollahra wonder year in and year out.On one recent visit we were delighted with a Provencale fish soup that had incredible depth of flavour, yet was lifted to even greater heights by a perfect rouille served in a separate white bowl. Our other starter was a gratin of globe artichokes accompanied by roast tomatoes, frisee salad and a perfect fennel vinaigrette.For main course we chose crepinettes of braised pigs trotter with confit hare accompanied by green beans and beetroot. This was a real dish for meat eaters, but was light and satisfying at the same time. We also delighted in a dish of honeycomb tripes with beef shin cooked in red wine. Substantial, yet beautifully cooked, this was a knockout!The service was perfect and the whole experience left us wondering why we don't drop in here more often.So we did and the food was just as good as the other times. In fact a dish of tripe was the stuff that legends are made of. As a result of this visit we have increased both the points rating and the hearts rating of this fine establishment.
