Saperavi grape variety
Wine glossary

Saperavi is a red grape variety that is native to Georgia where it is the main red grape of that central Asian country. It produces wines of intense red colour and complex flavour that are renowned for their longevity.
The grape is used in Georgia to produce both sweet and dry red wines. The Akhasheni and Kindzmarauli are excellent semi-sweet wines made from this grape and Mukuzani (aged for three years in oak casks) and Saperavi (aged for one year) are examples of dry, red wines made from the same grape.
