Domaine Saint Nicolas Fiefs Vendeens Reflets is a beautifully-balanced, biodynamic, elegant red wine from the Fiefs Vendeens appellation which lies close to the Atlantic just south of the Loire River.
The wines from the domaine are produced by Thierry Michon who is passionate about the potential of this region. He produces a great white wine called Haut des Clous from 40 year old Chenin Blanc vines that grow in schist soils. He is also passionate about biodynamic wine production and even keeps cattle on the property so that he can use the manure to fertilise the vines.
But we particularly like the elegance of the Reflets which is vinified from 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Cabernet Franc (the current vintage is 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Gamay, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% of the rare Negrette). We were utterly surprised to find an appellation so far west that gave due deference to the Pinot Noir grape.
We found this wonderful wine at the trendy wine shop in Avignon called Liquid and also a few blocks away at Rebel.
