The Fattoria Di Gracciano Svetoni Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano is a robust wine that matches well with the equally robust foods of Tuscany. The wine is vinified from low-yield vines consisting of 95% Sangiovese and 5% of the Prugnolo Gentile (this is a closely related varietal of Sangiovese known as Sangiovese Grosso and thought to be native to this area).
The name of the wine needs some explanation. The Fattoria di Gracciano estate was purchased by the Folonari family in the early 1990s. They property was previously owned by the Svetoni family whose name is still retained on the label. The DOCG is called Vino Nobile di Mpntepulciano of which the best wine is the Calvano.
We teamed it with some lovely dishes at the wonderful L'Antico Noè in Florence such as trippa alla fiorentina and wild boar stew.
