Both a grape variety and an appellation in the Campania district of Italy. The grape variety is thought to have been brought to Italy from the Thessaly region of Greece over 2000 years ago.
It now forms the core of one of the great appellations in Italy (of the same name) in Campania near Naples where some beautiful white wines are being made from this grape.
