If you assemble ten Singaporeans in a room then you will get ten completely different recommendations for the best place to try Hainanese chicken and rice. There are entire books and web sites devoted to where to go to get the best dishes in this food-obsessed city.

Nevertheless we stand by our conviction that the Hainanese chicken with rice at the Tian Tian stand (number 10) at the Maxwell Road Food Centre is one of the best dishes you are likely to find.

The owners here are also very gracious to tourists and eager to help them enjoy the chicken of which they are so proud. On our most recent trip this was the last meal we ate in Singapore. Even after we had reached Australia we were still savouring the taste!
