Ghemme is a small appellation in the north west of Italy in Piedmont. Some very smart wines are produced here from mainly Nebbiolo grapes. Sometimes the lesser known Vespolina grape is added in small quantities.
Ghemme was granted Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) status in 1969 and was upgraded to Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita status is 1997.
