Pey-Marin Vineyards "The Shellmound" Riesling is grown not far from the Californian coast in cold, foggy Marin county on the slopes of Mount Tamalpais.
For those not familiar with the geography of San Francisco, this is just a short drive form the centre of the city over the Golden Gate bridge and you are almost there.
The wines are crafted by Jonathan and Susan Pey who combine extensive wine making and wine marketing experience.
Only about 200 cases of the Riesling is made, but if you can find a bottle it is well worth enjoying it either as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to, say, some simply-dressed oysters.
