Teaism at Dupont Circle is a temple to tea in the heart of Washington DC. The food menu here is heavily influenced by Asia. You can dine on such strange offerings as rice with tea poured over it to form a soup, or vegetable Indian curry or a Japanese bento box. Or, for breakfast you can try the cilantro scrambled eggs or the eggs and tea cured salmon.
But we visit Teaism because it takes tea seriously! They have some good Pu-Erh, wonderful Shao Hongpao and the interesting Yinzhen Silver Needle white tea. You can also buy the first flush Darjeeling from the Poobong Estate in India if you want a full flavoured variety.
Full marks to this small but energetic establishment that radiates a wonderful enthusiasm for all that it trying to achieve!
There is now a new site at 800 Connecticut Avenue as well. It is near Lafayette Park.
And there is now another one too. It is at Penn Quarter on the corner of 8th and D.
