The Domaine La Suffrene Bandol Rouge from young winemaker Cedric Gravier is a fine example of the wines from the Bandol appellation in Provence. While labels such as Domaine Tempier and Chateau Pibarnon may get most of the attention, this is an emerging label that is worth seeking out. The base level wine is a blend that usually includes Mourvedre, Grenache, Cinsault and a little Carignan.
We have become addicted to the gutsy, yet elegant wines from the Bandol appellation ever since we were introduced to them at Chez Panisse many years ago.
We first came across Domaine La Suffrene at a lovely restaurant in Amsterdam called Lof where it was the perfect accompaniment to a stunning dish of suckling lamb leg served with morels.
