Bar Lourinha is a must-visit spot in the Melbourne CBD. The food here is exciting, comforting, rooted in Spain and Portugal but open to the world and above all not tricked up. Food lovers flock here.
You are served small dishes here and, if sharing with one other, probably five to eight dishes will be plenty. You can accompany the food with a smart selection of wines by the glass (the night we did this review there were about ten wines available including a sparkling wine from Catalonia made by Juvé y Champs) or you can choose from the wine list which includes some good Spanish wines as well as many Australian wines based on Spanish grape varieties.
The food is served on small, rectangular dishes. You can order dishes such as grilled quail with salsa agrodolce, Bolinho de bacalhou with aioli and a salad of celery leaves, radicchio, parsley and red onion, vine grilled sardines with a fennel, parsley and mint salad, grilled lamb's tongue with skordalia, morcilla with beautiful pickled fennel, veal tripe in a soulful almond sauce or a pomegranate and blood orange crema.
We enjoy Bar Lourinha very much and look forward to many visits in the future.
