Pierre Hermé is one of our favourite food stores in Paris. We just love this shoebox sized shop in the 6th where there is always a queue of eager sweet-toothed customers. We always have trouble deciding. Will we order a Celeste topped with strawberries? Or maybe the tango with the raspberries arranged with precision? Or an individual citron tart or one of the beautiful millefeuilles? On our last visit we couldn't resist the red paper wrapped Surprise II with meringue, mousseline aux fruits e la passion, confit de rhubarbe aux fraise and eclates d'armandes. the PH3, three orbs of white chocolate with complex fillings (lemon marmalade or caramelised apples) ranging from sweet to tart (and accompanying advice to eat them in the order orange, yellow, green).
The famous Herme chocolate can be bought for 90 Euro per kilo. The most popular item seems to be the perfectly-formed mini-macaroons that come with a variety of interesting fillings. And are the perfect petit-fours.
