On the River Bank is a producer of 'real' free range eggs that come from chickens that eat grass and forage for worms in the open during the day. It is really nice to find producers who are willing to let their chooks roam free!
Further, they do not use any growth hormones or antibiotics and do not use any chemical sprays on their pastures so you can eat their eggs in the knowledge that you are not ingesting any poisons - one of the biggest problems with food production these days.
The hens are locked up at night, but only to protect them from some of Tasmania's abundant wild life such as quolls and devils which can be aggressively predatory.
You can find their eggs at the lovely Laneway Café in Devonport, at the Sheffield Fruit and Veg in Main Street, Sheffield and at the Burnie and Devonport Farmers Markets.
