Au Passage has become one of our favourite eating and drinking places in Paris. The food is expertly prepared and sourced from impeccable suppliers. The wine list pays tribute to the best of France's natural wine producers. And all this at incredibly reasonable prices.
Our recent visit saw us tucking into Moules with Crème d'Amande, mains of Noix de Veau and Merlu, a cheese course of St Marcellin and a stunning dessert of Mirabeau, Prunes and Crème aux Figues. And all this for under 20 Euros per person!
The mussels had been cooked perfectly till just set and then drizzled with a very tasty almond cream. This dish matched perfectly to a white Vin de Pays from Provence made from Ugni Rose (a variant of the more common Ugni Blanc grape variety).
The veal was cooked perfectly to a rosy pink and was served with potatoes and green beans. The hake (merlu) was also perfectly cooked to just past translucent and served with the same vegetables.
The creamy St Marcellin was served with a generous amount of very good bread and there was olive oil scattered on the plate to add flavour.
The dessert was a real stunner. The prunes and plums were very fresh and perfectly ripe and they were accompanied by an ice cream that had been made from infused fig leaves. Perfect!
Au Passage is very informal, it fills up quickly after noon and early evening and the service is very good. We feel very comfortable here.
