121BC is a another venture for the Vini group which now operates Vini, Berta and this venue. They have created the Italian equivalent of a 'cave a manger' where you can buy a focussed selection of impressive biodynamic, organic and natural wines from the length and breadth of Italy as well as joining others at the communal table to graze on the selection of perfectly executed dishes on offer.
It would take too long to describe our favourite wines here because we like them all. However if you are to try just one wine, drop into the cantina and do yourself a favour by buying a bottle of the La Stoppa Ageno from the Emilia-Romagna area of Italy. This wine falls into the category of orange wines - those created from white grapes but where the skins have been left in contact with the grape juice for an extended period of time. The Ageno is made from Malvasia, Trebbiano and the very rare Ortrugo. The grapes are hand-picked and destemmed and then left to macerate and naturally ferment with the skins still in contact for a period of at least one month. The juice is then transferred to tanks to age on lees for a period of twelve months before the wine is bottled without filtration. This is a beautiful wine of great complexity and charm.
We thoroughly enjoy our visits here and drop in for a glass or two quite often.
