La Vache à Carreaux is hidden in the back streets of Avignon behind the Palais du Papes and it wakes up after dark. It's mainly a wine bar, with a small gem of a wine list that includes Santa Duc Gigondas, Yann Chave’s Hermitage, cult wines such as Granges des Pères from the Languedoc and less familiar drops like the delicious Domaine St Nicolas Fiefs Vendéens, a pinot noir from the Loire. There is also a simple food menu so that you can snack while enjoying the wines.
