Most tourists head for Place de l’Horloge, in the heart of Avignon where the wall to wall cafés are mostly full of tourists. A few blocks away at place Crillon the atmosphere is better and at La Comedie, the mood is different. It's less frenzied, the coffee is good (for France), the convivial terrace is ideal for people watching and a relaxing drink, and there are good galleries nearby.
