Glencoe is the latest venture of Remi and Ginette Bancal formerly of Calstock at Deloraine which is now run by the Pepper's chain.
The first thing you notice after arriving at this pleasant spot on the plains above Lake Barrington is the stunning garden that invites you to a long, leisurely lunch under the leafy trees. Tables and chairs are scattered through the garden and there is also an indoor area for cooler days.
The food here is simple and reasonably priced. You might find an onion and goat cheese tart or a simple steak sandwich served with homemade mustard sauce and a fresh salad.
They are developing a garden to supply the kitchen.
You can also enjoy a cup f tea or coffee. We were pleased to see a Pai mu tan white tea from China on the menu. This is a lovely light tea that appeals to tea lovers much more than the strong 'British-style' teas so common in Tasmanian restaurants.
We also have sampled a beautiful chestnut soup using fresh chestnuts from nearby Paradise and an Aillade of lamb with potatoes and beans that was one of the most comforting dishes we have had this year. A dessert of chocolate mousse with raspberries was a lovely way to finish the meal.
Recently they have introduced some Creole dishes from Reunion to the small menu.
