Ut Si is a pleasant café in the sleepy town of Perth, just south of Launceston in Tasmania. It is in a restored church building and provides a very airy, relaxing environment for customers. The service is charming.
We called in for morning tea and enjoyed some of the great cakes and scones on offer. A flourless chocolate and almond cake (with a chocolate skin and shavings of chocolate and side bowl of whipped cream) was perfectly executed, as was a small square of lemon slice.
We also enjoyed the fresh scones despite the fact that they has been reheated in the overworked microwave oven. These were served with quite beautiful red currant and rose petal jam and a side dish of cream. The scones had been 'dusted' with small rose petals. The coffee was fine without rising to great heights and the tea was real - a great bonus!
We are likely to return often for breakfast and morning tea.
We have returned on a number of occasions since our initial visit and the food seems to be getting better on each visit. For example, on one recent visit at lunchtime we enjoyed a potato and leek and Mount Gnomon bacon tortilla served with a green leaf salad and sweet tomato jam.
We also have been enjoying some very good bread which you can buy here.
