Ut Si is a pleasant cafe in the sleepy town of Perth, just south of Launceston in Tasmania. It is in a restored church building and provides a very airy, relaxing environment for customers, which is more like walking into someone's country kitchen and sitting at the kitchen table than walking into a cafe. The service is charming.
There is an organic garden that thrives at the back of the café where much of the produce for the café is sourced. They also have other suppliers as well such as the Wessex Saddleback pork from Mount Gnomon Farm on the north-west coast of Tasmania where Guy Robertson and Eliza Wood specialise in ethically-raised meat including pork, beef and lambs.
Also out the back near the garden is a wood-fired oven where most days of the week they bake their own very good bread. And, the garden is the venue for a weekly market as well.
We nearly always drop in here whether we are passing at breakfast or lunch time or in between. At lunchtime we have enjoyed a potato and leek and Mount Gnomon bacon tortilla served with a green leaf salad and sweet tomato jam, a pulled pork pizza and many other dishes made from excellent base ingredients. The cakes and desserts are also a feature here and many times we have enjoyed a moist, flavour-packed slice of cake.
There is an honesty and integrity in the food here which is pleasing to see and is the reason we keep going back!
