September Wines & Spirits is a wine store has a clever selection of wines and spirits from all parts of the globe. It is a place we like to visit because they have an emphasis on organic and biodynamic wines, many of which are very reasonably priced.
In our visits to this store we have noticed a number of biodynamic wines we find interesting. The Domaine Aux Moines Savennieres from the Loire Valley is a biodynamically-produced Chenin Blanc of some complexity.
Also the Christian Venier Touraine 'Le Brin de Chèvre' shows what can be done when the Chenin Blanc grape is allowed to thrive in favourable terroir.
From the Rhone Valley where biodynamics are treated very seriously indeed, the Pierre Andre Chateauneuf du Pape is a power-packed Grenache wine of complexity and a satisfying finish.
And it is not only in France that you find wines produced this way. The inexpensive Sepp Moser Gruner Vetliner from the Kremstal region of Austria is also a great bargain as well as being an interesting wine. Also the Sybille Kuntz 'Trocken' Riesling from the Mosel area of Germany is a wine of nice minerality and satisfying dryness.
Another wine we noticed there that is gaining some attention (apart from being biodynamic) is the Weingut Michlits Burgenland Blaufrankisch. Blaufrankisch is a red grape favoured in Austria which is notable for its velvet tannins and long finish.
So, a visit here is sure to uncover a real treat that might open you up to new worlds of interesting wines.
