Alex Jovanovic and Alisha Wilson have recently reinvented the space they formerly occupied as Piccolo in North Hobart as a daytime cafe and eatery called Berta. The menu now is simpler with breakfast and lunch dishes featured.
If you get there early (it opens at 7:30am) you can have a coffee and, maybe, a gingerbread hotcake or choose from the array of egg-based dishes. For lunch, dishes such as a fried chicken and pickled cucumber sandwich or pork and fennel sausages with radicchio are ideal lunch dishes.
Or you can simply order a coffee or a glass of wine and sit at one of the footpath tables and enjoy the passing parade.
Note that they now open for dinner from Thursday to Saturday.
