Ashgrove Farm is situated beside the Bass Highway about 20 kilometres north-west of Deloraine. This vibrant cheese factory specialises in English-style cheeses.
The milk is produced from the paddocks surrounding the factory where 800 cows graze contentedly on the wonderful pastures.
The cheeses produced here range from a very good vintage cheddar, to a farmhouse Cheshire through to a crumbly Lancashire. The matured Lancashire is very good for making Welsh Rarebit.
They also produce a range of smoked, flavoured and fruit cheeses that are not to our taste but are very popular with tourists who flock here both for the cheese and for the attractive display of life-size cows placed in strategic positions around the cheesery. Look also for their very good full cream milk, their lovely butter and the excellent cultured butter.
You can also sample cheese at the factory and purchase a wide range of other Tasmanian food items as well as local wines and spirits. These include Nery's Organic Preserves (try the green tomato pickle), the Tasmanian Gourmet Sauces range (we love the tomato kasundi), Blue Banner pickled onions, Tassaf saffron, Gourlay's wonderful traditional humbugs and a variety of local honey products.
