The Vin de Pays du Vaucluse wine region covers the département of Vaucluse in the western section of Provence running from Orange in the north to Avignon in the south and to Apt in the east. The Rhone forms the western border of Vaucluse. Reds white and rose wines are made within this vin de pays.There are some very smart wines produced under this vin de pays as some of the best winemakers from Chateauneuf-du-Pape have bought land on the slopes of Mont Ventoux and are experimenting with adding small quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon to their red wines. A good example is the wine produced by the Brunier brothers from Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe. They operate another domaine called Domaine la Roquette which produces a wine called Le Pigeoulet which they release as a Vin de Pays du Vaucluse because there is a mix of grapes from near the Rhone and from a vineyard near Caromb as well as the addition of up to 10% Cabernet Sauvignon to the dominant Grenache.Another good option from this vin de pays are the organically produced wines under the Domaine du Vieux Chene label from Camaret near Orange.
