Lotus Eaters is a very special place. It is loved by the locals who use it as a drop-in centre, as a message exchange and as a place to go when they want sincere, good, honest food that has been cooked with skill and care.
Every day there is a hearty soup that is a meal in a bowl. We tried a home made tomato soup topped with parmesan and extra virgin olive oil and accompanied by good organic bread presented with real butter.
We particularly like the tarts they serve here, whether it be a rich mushroom tart made from Huon Valley mushrooms or a spinach, pine nut and cheese tart made from the wonderful local Tongola goat cheese they are always good.
Some of the dishes are served with a taste of three salads. One our recent visit this was tomato and cucumber, sweet potato, carrot and currant as well as some spinach salad.
Every dish, whether it is one of the pies (beef with tomato and red wine) or the curry (we have enjoyed a lemony chicken curry) or the pizzas is worth a try.
We just wish that someone would open a place like Lotus Eaters close to where we live!
