This is the one review on the foodtourist site that is not completely dispassionate. We pride ourselves that all our restaurant reviews are done anonymously and we are fiercely independent in the judgements we make about them. We never review a meal that we haven't paid for in order to maintain that independence. However, this review of a rental house in Provence is not independent because we partly own the property. We bought it because Vaucluse is one of our favourite food and wine regions on earth. Within a short drive of Caromb are famous wine regions such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Seguret, Rasteau and Beaumes de Venise. The plains that spread out from Caromb are blanketed with vineyards, cherry orchards, apricot orchards, chestnut trees used for harvesting truffles in winter, lavender fields and vegetable plots producing the famous ratte potatoes, stunning green beans and perfect, richly-flavoured melons.Twenty minutes down the road in the village of Velleron is one of our favourite markets where every afternoon nearly one hundred farmers back up their trucks in a car park and sell an amazing array of perfect produce picked that day from the plains and mountain slopes of the area. The bakery here is also one of France's finest. And it is also a short drive to the Luberon with its picture postcard beauty and perched, hilltop villages. Historic towns such as Avignon with its amazing papal palace, Vaison la Romaine with its Roman ruins and Orange with its complex history are within an easy drive. So, if the idea of a week or two in one of the most beautiful places on earth attracts you, visit the link below where the facilities of our house are described.http://www.provencevillagehouse.com
