Mud Bar and Restaurant is a complete package. It is well-designed, there are some nice furnishings, it is relaxed, the food is cooked with care and precision, the waiting staff are excellent and the wine list is impressive!Sitting on the banks of the North Esk River the restaurant occupies part of the ground floor of the Peppers Seaport Hotel complex.Mud is the type of restaurant that we go to by choice not because we have to review it. In fact most times we visit Launceston you will find us heading to this venue to try the lovely food and to sample an interesting bottle of wine. One of the reasons is that the food isn't messed around. It is left to speak for itself. The style of food to expect is a rustic Italian seafood soup or a roasted free range chicken with rosemary and mascarpone stuffing or grilled quail served with local pinkeye potatoes. Wines are a strength here too and you might start with a crisp verdejo made by Telmo Rodriguez in Spain or the Dazante Pinot Grigio from Italy, or if you want to splash out the sensational Lady A Fume Blanc from Stoney Vineyard. You might then move on to a Frogmore Creek Pinot Noir from Tasmania's Coal Valley or move farther afield with a Castello di Farnetella Chianti Classico. With dessert you can order a Marenco Moscato or revisit Telmo Rodriguez by trying his delicate MR Moscatel or the luscious Chateau Fayau ‘Jean Médeville et Fils' from Cadillac, a small appellation just north of Loupiac in the Bordeaux region of France.
