Davies Grand Central Station is a serious food venue. A service station on the road out of Launceston is hardly the type of location that would warrant a second look from a dedicated food lover. However, you would be doing yourself a dis-service if you don't take the time to stop and wander around the shelves of this unique venue. At first sight you may think it is just another petrol station selling the normal range of 'convenience' fast foods. But don't look to the right when you enter, look instead to the left. Your eyes will alight on the rows and rows of premium Tasmanian wine, then the Herbie's spices, then the Spirit House curry bases, then the Pyengana Cheese, then the baguettes from the wood-fired Lilydale Bakery.Products from many of Tasmania's best suppliers line the shelves. Tasmanian Gourmet Sauces jars are prominent as are the decorative Tasmanian Honey Company tins of Leatherwood honey. Look also for Tasmania's best olive oil from Ashbolts in the Derwent Valley.We have found high quality blackberries and blackcurrants here from Honeywood Farm at Lilydale. They usually have some of the stunning vegetables and herbs from our favourite Yorktown Organics.You will soon be searching the shelves for your favourite pasta or ordering some fresh fish or stocking up on some of Tasmania's finest wines and beers. We have noticed newcomer Sinapius Pinot Noir here as well as the emerging Barton Vineyard.Davies Grand Central Station is well worth a visit.
